Nacogdoches Dragon Football

Darren Allman is entering his second season as head coach football coach and athletic director of the Nacogdoches Dragons. Allman came to Nacogdoches after serving as Executive Director of Athletics at Carroll ISD in Southlake. Before coming to Nacogdoches, Allman posted a career coaching record of 88-38 over 10 seasons, including stints at Austin Westlake and Odessa Permian. Allman, an Odessa native where he starred at Permian High School, posted two consecutive seasons of 12 wins at his alma mater before moving on to Westlake in 2009. Allman is a 1987 graduate of Permian High School. He played football at Texas Tech University before finishing up at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Allman was an All-American defensive back at Hardin-Simmons, where he was a three-year team captain and three-time all-conference player. In 2013, Allman was inducted into the Hardin-Simmons University Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was named to the school’s All-Decade Team. Before becoming head coach at Permian in 2005, Allman was defensive coordinator at Highland Park, Temple and Brownwood. He was also an assistant coach at Cleveland High School and spent a year at Hardin-Simmons as a defensive backs coach. Introduction will be by Garrett Altier

Colby Carthel begins his second year at the helm of the Lumberjack football program in 2020, looking to build on the progress made in his first season at the helm last season. The Texas native has made an immediate splash in the FCS recruiting world, as the Lumberjacks have compiled a Top-5 recruiting class in the FCS in each of the past two seasons, and nabbed the top FCS commit in each of those seasons.

Football Officiating: Things You Should Know

Byron Boston recently retired from officiating in the NFL after twenty-five years of service. During his NFL career Boston officiated 25 play-off games, including Super Bowl XXXIV between St. Louis and Tennessee, Super Bowl XLVII between Baltimore and San Francisco, Super Bowl LII between New England and Philadelphia, as well as 10 Conference Championship games. He also worked the Pro Bowl in 2012. Since the merger in 1966 his 13 Super Bowl and Championship game assignments ties him for first place in NFL history for high level assignments. The jersey that Byron wore in his final game, the AFC Championship game between Kansas City and Tennessee, is displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Boston currently leads the Southland Conference in its successful football officiating consortium with the Big 12, which is entering its 14th year. The Mountain West Conference joined the consortium in 2010. He has been chairman of the NCAA’s Recruiting Committee for over 10 years. His work on that committee has contributed to a leveling of the playing field for minority NCAA officials at all levels. Boston began his Division I collegiate officiating career in the Southland Conference and entered the Southwest Conference in 1990. Prior to that Boston was a high school official in the Dallas and Houston areas. He has also been an instructor in various college and high school officiating clinics including those conducted by the Big 12 and Southland conferences. Introduction will be by Garrett Altier
