Teaching Children The Joy of Performance

Alba Madrid is an adjunct faculty member in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, where she teaches violin and viola applied lessons, string methods, secondary music education, and coaches chamber music ensembles. She is also the Piney Woods Youth Orchestra director and our new appointed Music Preparatory Division Director. Ms. Madrid has 10+ years of experience teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school level in the public schools.

An active performer, Ms. Madrid is currently a member of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra and Longview Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with many other symphony orchestras around east Texas.

A native of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Ms. Madrid holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in violin performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she studied with professor Stephen Redfield. She also had the opportunity to study with violinist Alexander Brussilovsky at the “Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves” in France, and has continued her studies at the “String Project” at the University of Michigan, The Dorothy Delay Symposium at the Juilliard School of Music, and the “Retreat for Professional Violinists” at the Jacobs School of Music in Indiana.
